DuRard, McKenna & Borg traces its roots back nearly 50 years when our founder, Ernie Norback, began representing working men and women in San Francisco. Shortly later he moved the office to San Mateo where over the years our numbers have grown as did the number of working people in San Mateo County. Mr. Norback, known as Ernie to one and all, oversaw the growth of the firm for the next 30 years until his retirement in 1985.
As the firm grew, we developed three special areas of interest: labor and employment issues, workers compensation, and personal injury law. In
the mid-‘60s Robert DuRard joined the firm and came to personify the unofficial motto: "No cause too helpless, no case too small." Well known in local labor circles as well as local courts, Bob served as
President of the San Mateo County Bar Association as well as President of the San Mateo County Trial Lawyers' Associates. Bob was also a familiar face at many local charity organizations. Bob
retired from active practice in November 1996 and died in !999 but the spirit of his work remains very much with us today.
Currently, Michael McKenna and Susan Borg continue the firm in the tradition established by Ernie and Bob. Michael, a San Mateo native, came to the
firm in 1983 after practicing law for five years in Redwood City with the firm of Harrigan & McKenna. Mike had always felt a debt of gratitude to organized labor, since it was membership in the Marine
Cooks and Stewards' Union that allowed him to ship out in 1969 and travel the Orient on the USS President Wilson in the Merchant Marines. After graduating from UC Berkeley he went to law school while working
as a member of Hod Carriers Local 36. This union experience proved invaluable in helping him understand the needs of working men and women confronted with industrial injuries and the need to continue providing
for themselves and their families. Mike practices both workers' compensation and personal injury law with special emphasis on what are known as "third party" cases where expertise in both workers' compensation
and personal injury law is required.
Sue Borg joined the firm in 1989. A New York native, she attended college in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and then came to San Francisco to attend
law school. She is a certified specialist in workers' compensation law and has lectured widely on the subject. Both Sue and Mike are members of the Board of Governors of the California Applicant
Attorneys' Association, a Statewide association of attorneys representing injured workers. Sue is also founder and President of the San Francisco Chapter of this organization. Sue devotes her practice entirely to representing injured workers in workers compensation claims.
Stuart Crymes and Robert Wyman both have many years experience in the practice of workers compensation. Rob has been an associate at our firm
since 1997 and Stuart joined us in the Spring of 2000.. They both devote their practice to representing injured workers before the Workers Compensation Appeals Board.
Connie Madera Voos practices in the area of employment and personal injury law Connie has emphasized employment issues during her career and
currently advises clients of their rights regarding a variety of job-related issues including the Americans with Disabilities Act, harassment, wrongful discharge and all manner of discrimination.
Our firm emphasizes a team approach in an effort to provide clients with multifaceted representation on issues relating to their injuries,
disabilities and employment. Together we strive to assure a seamless and successful process of securing all rights and benefits the law provides. Please contact us to arrange an appointment to discuss your
particular situation.
